Whether you have an antique inspired bedroom, a romantic bedroom style or you prefer a super modern bedroom look, we’ve put together a few ideas to turn your bedroom (whatever your bedroom decor style is) into a zen paradise where you can unwind, relax and get the deep rest you deserve.
Clean Sheets, Clean Room, Clean Mind
“With a clean, fresh space, there’s less to overwhelm your senses” – a thought we can agree with from our friends at House Beautiful. When you walk into your room and hop into your brass bed, looking around the room and seeing clutter will only distract you from winding down from a day of meetings, kids, errands, etc. The last thing you want to be thinking about is how you need to clean up a pile of clothes on the floor while you’re trying to get your bedtime wind down on.
And what’s better than climbing into a bed with fresh, crisp, clean sheets? We recommend sticking with at least a weekly washing of your bedroom textiles, or even popping your pillow cases in the dryer for 5-10 minutes before bedtime for a cozy and fresh feel. Try keeping the surfaces in your bedroom clutter free and watch how that helps you relax when climbing into your brass bed!
You know how a glaring light in the morning wakes you up in a not so gentle way? Imagine what that glaring light does to deter you from easing into relaxation mode before bed! “Bright, jarring light contributes to the visual noise in a room, and can even set your body clock to keep you awake long after you have turned the light off”, according to DenGarden. “Rather than using one large, central ceiling light in your bedroom, place several smaller lamps around the room at varying heights, such as on your tall dresser, low dresser and nightstand. Turn on only those that you need at any given time.” We love this tip!
Leave Your Work at the Office…
While it can be tempting to snuggle up in bed with a good (laptop!) – it’s best to leave your work outside the bedroom. Your brain will begin to associate with the stressors of work when you’re lying in there trying to catch some shut eye making it hard to actually relax for the workday ahead. Trust us, you’ll get MORE done if you actually catch those z’s and enjoy the comfort of your brass bed sans scrolling through neverending emails!
Make sure your bedside table (like our best selling Bird Buddies End Table!) has everything you need on it for your evening routine so you don’t need to keep getting up. Keep a beautiful pitcher of fresh drinking water, your favorite candle or crystal, a magazine or book and your reading glasses. Keep it simple. Less is more when it comes to what is lying next to your head when you’re trying to get some sleep.
Sleep With Your Cell Phone in Another Room
We know, we know, easier said than done. According to VeryWellHealth.com, the stimulation from cell phone light may make it hard to shut down and fall asleep. When your phone (i.e. your computer, your photos from the last decade, and thousands of friends on social media) are a body roll away, your chances of replying to a quick text when your eyes should be getting used to the dark are a lot higher when it’s within arms reach. Charge your phone in the kitchen overnight and if you feel a bedroom phone is necessary you can try keeping a good old fashioned landline next to your bed if you feel like you need it for emergencies. This way you know you won’t miss any crucial phone calls… but you also won’t start binge watching a new show on netflix at 11PM on your iPhone.
Now climb into your brass bed, and go get some ZZZ’s…
